Buddhi Katangodage is the Assistant Coordinator of Yoko
Agriculture Training at the Colombo Mahikari Center (Sri Lanka), who became a Mahikari
member (as a kumite) in January 2011. He has practiced Yoko farming at the
center and participated a training field visit to Yoko farming introducing tea estate
in Kalatuwawa area.
Buddhi is currently an undergraduate of Faculty of Agricultural
Sciences of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (SUSL), reading for his Bachelor
of Science Degree in Agriculture and Management, in specializing in the field
of Agribusiness Management. The coursework and practical work related to both Plantation/
Field crop production in traditional and advanced technological methods, and Livestock
Production for both dairy and meat processing sectors, has covered under this
curriculum. His major field, Agribusiness Management, is a curriculum which is
geared to develop the analytical, marketing, business and entrepreneurial
skills to produce future agro-entrepreneurs and agribusiness managers.
Buddhi invented a food product under organic
concept, by using breadfruit as the main ingredient, which can be preserved
under room temperature (25-30 °C) for 3 months without
adding artificial preservatives, and which has the ability to reduce occurring
heart attacks, colon cancers and diabetes due to its fibrous structure of the
ingredient. It was launched at the event of innovated agro-product launch,
“EXPEDITION 2011”, which was organized by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences,
SUSL. He held the position of the President of the organizing committee in the
above mentioned event as well.
Buddhi Katangodage also holds a Bachelor of
Science (Honors) Degree in Information Technology from Sri Lanka Institute of
Information Technology (SLIIT). He is a
Sun Certified Professional for the Java 2 platform and also, an IBM Certified
Database Associate for DB2. He holds Diploma in English from Aquinas College of
Higher Studies, Colombo, Sri Lanka and Diploma in Computer Studies from IDM
Computer Studies (pvt) Ltd.
Also, Buddhi is certified in Basic Rescue
Course, and Elementary Swimming and Water Safety, by Life Saving Association of
Sri Lanka, and also, a holder of “Parisara Niyamu”, the Environment
Protector rank offered by the Central Environmental Authority of Sri Lanka.
His secondary education was at Ananda College, Colombo,
Sri Lanka and primary education was at Asoka Vidyalaya, Colombo, Sri Lanka. He
was the former Treasurer of the “Old Anandians 2005 Group” affiliated to the
Old Boys’ Association of Ananda College, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Buddhi is an inventor, researcher, writer and
both post and undergraduate, who likes to travel around Sri Lanka and research
to make the Sri Lankan agriculture sustainable by using modern technology.
